Over the last 50 years there has been growing interest in what used to be seen as an exclusively Eastern approach to the balance of mind / body / spirit. The idea of chakras (energy centres in our energy field) has become fairly commonplace, and we all have a concept of people having an aura about them. Through books and courses there is the opportunity to explore the phenomenon of our energy field. There is so much available that it is important to be discerning when following advice and “How To” videos.
If you are drawn to this arena and interested in developing your potential healing ability, you could start with an informative book by one of the UK’s most famous healers: Harry Edwards. Second hand copies of “A Guide to the Understanding and Practice of Spiritual Healing” are still available online. This book was written in 1974 by a gentleman who was, by then, elderly, so it is naturally somewhat antiquated, but such a sincere and accessible "instruction manual" is one of a kind and well worth the study.

As quantum science catches up and begins to explain phenomena that many people over the centuries have known about, accessed and employed intuitively, East is drawing closer to West - and vice versa. It won't be long before the profundity of our understanding will become breath-takingly awe-inspiring.
Or you may not be at all interested in the "why and how", and just come to healing with a gut feeling that it will do you good, along with an appreciation of the natural benefits of another's care and compassion being extended to you. Gentle concern and care, coupled with an invisible energy source, may simply be experienced as an act of human kindness.

I was seventeen when I was first told I had an aptitude for healing.
Anyone can give healing, it isn’t a gift that you're born either with or without.
Anyone (able-bodied) can ice skate, do ballet, run a marathon, become a car mechanic.
Anyone (able-brained) can become a philosopher, an accountant, a composer, a teacher.
etc.

What sets people apart is aptitude and yearning. A natural ability, a natural affinity, a sense of vocation and fulfilment. In his foreword Harry Edwards says:
“People who have a deep inner yearning to give of themselves in healing the sick, to take away pain and stress, who possess compassion and sympathy for those who are afflicted… people who render willing service for good causes, are those who possess the spiritual qualities which mark the healing gift.”
